Is the number of IIT's degrading the IIT BRAND name?

People get used to privilege. In any society once you get a taste of privileged treatment it is so difficult to give it up, give it away or even share it. It does not seem strange to me that we now try to maintain our privilege at the tax payers expense.

So now I ask :
Is the number if smart people in India declining?
1981 - 640 million
1991 - 840 million
2008 - 1130 million
This is nearly a 75% increase in the number of "smart" people eligible to get admission into IIT.
So is the increase in number of seats in IIT such a bad option?
With so much talent in our country , a population of over one billion, 7 IIT's are not enough.

Let us not forget that in every nation it is the duty of the government to create infrastructure that reaches the masses and not to harbor elitism.
Dedicated to the service of the nation , not to an elite 1 %.

IIT's were never meant to be high IQ societies where only the "divinely

gifted were supposed to enter. IIT's were opened to provide high quality engineers to support the economic and social development of our country.

OBVIOUSLY THE MORE INTELLIGENT SHOULD BE PREFERED,

But at the cost of a nation's development?

These are the moves that the Govt has made to make IIT a world class institute which will pave the path for India's growth.

IIT's , as we see today, would not have come up had merit not been the sole criterion. Is the country ready to witness all these fruits of hard labour go to waste by becoming a victim to political opportunism? The OBC category is a fuzzy set and only the creamy layer becomes thicker and thicker leaving behind the poor in all categories.

As the county moves towards a knowledge economy, excellence is to be nurtured more than anything else. Moreover, the history of the country for the last six decades has proved that excellence is NOT the monopoly of any caste or religion.

This is also evident in all the central institutions of higher education and research. For the first time after Independence, India has the chance of excelling with a huge mass of young talent pool. To squander this golden opportunity now is sheer intellectual hara-kiri.

The worst part is that we havn't been able to anything to prevent the destruction of our own institute.

What does being drunk mean??

So when we drink do we not realize who we are , what our true abilities are ??
WHat we can do and what we should not do??

DO we elevate from the mortal sense of earth??

Are we unable to do things which every normal person can do in normal sense??

STUPID POLITICS

India's most reputed and arguably one of the worlds best engineering college , Indian Institute of Technology , commonly know as as IIT are considered every aspiring engineers dream college.

They work day and night, burning the mid-night oil , sacrificing all their other pleasures for 2 to 3 years and dedicating a part of their life in an attempt to clear the IIT-JEE exam.

In 11th and 12th when most of their friends are off partying all night long they study in the hope that they would reap even sweeter fruits in the long run.

The pressure their parents put on the very fact that IIT selection makes or brakes your career.

Forget my earlier criticism of the IIT system and no difference of the IIT'ians from the rest of the engineering students.

We may not be gifted with super human capabalities but one thing which we do have is determination.

We have toiled so hard for it and ....................

Some of the finest people have given up top positions and fat cheques that were offered to them in other parts of the world to come and teach in the IITs, despite the low pay scale that the government offers. With reservation in faculty positions, I see a day, not far from now, when the IITs will crumble

Merit on which brand IIT rests, would be shaken by the decision of the government.

Hey I am back home currently after like 2 and a half months and well like always I get the royal treatment for the first few days....
choco's cakes butter biscuits and what not.... drinks....
